this is edith, named after lot’s wife — who in the biblical story is never named (but is called edith in the midrash) and was turned into a pillar of salt for looking back at the city they were commanded to leave. there are various stories explaining why she was turned to salt and why she looked back, but i believe she was looking back with longing and worry for her two daughters who chose to stay. and you’ll never convince me otherwise.
edith is part of the matriarch series and is made from white stoneware clay. she was completed in 2020.
